Holly Mathews was born in a small town near the equator called Kernville. Her mother and father were the original type slaves when letterpress began to fade out of style and computers took over graphic design and typography. Her mother taught her how to make pasta from an ancient recipe, and Holly soon molded her love for pasta and type into one: New Baskerville Soup. Needless to say, it was a novelty... and only collected dust on the shelves, for you see, Alphabit soup was popular due to its likeness to Comic Sans.
During her adolescent years, strange things began happening to Holly Mathews. She became enamored with learning more and more about typefaces, inducing wild dreams of DIN chasing Frutiger on an icecap known as Milton Glacier.
Holly started college at Watkins College of Art, Design & Film in the Fall of 2005... and inherited the curse of never being able to look at a billboard or advertisement without critiqueing it and trying to change the leading and kerning of the slogans and company names.
Due to her rough life in the graphic design world, she has made it her life's work to change the face of graphic design and learn on a daily basis. Is this a noble vow or merely a fools errand? She has slowly learned over time that It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see.
